Privacy Policy
Punfold is a picture-puzzle party game. It's designed to collect as little about you as possible: no accounts, no ads, no tracking, and no selling of data.
This policy explains what the Punfold app for iPhone (“the app”) does with information. “I”, “me” and “my” mean Calum Marrs, the developer of Punfold, based in the United Kingdom. I am the data controller for the purposes of UK data protection law.
The short version
- You don't create an account with me. There's nothing to sign up for.
- Your settings, scores and game progress are stored on your phone.
- There are no ads, no analytics tools and no tracking across other apps or websites.
- Leaderboards, purchases and online games use Apple's own services (Game Center, the App Store and iCloud).
- In Remote games, your voice clue is shared with the friends in that game and deleted when the game ends.
Information stored only on your phone
The app saves your settings (such as sound and the UK or US puzzle edition), player names you type in, high scores and which puzzles you've seen. This stays on your device. I can't see it. Deleting the app deletes it.
Game Center (leaderboards and Remote games)
If you're signed in to Game Center, the app uses it to post your scores to leaderboards and to run Remote games with friends. Game Center is provided by Apple. Your Game Center nickname and scores are visible to other players according to your Game Center settings. Apple's handling of this data is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy. You can play without Game Center; leaderboards and Remote games just won't be available.
Remote games and voice clues
In Remote games you record a short spoken clue for your friends to solve. Here's what happens to it:
- Microphone: the app only uses the microphone while you are recording a clue, and only after you've given permission. You can turn this off at any time in Settings › Punfold.
- Answer check: before sending, the app checks on your phone that your clue doesn't say the answer. This uses Apple's on-device speech recognition; the recording isn't sent anywhere for this check.
- Sharing: the clue is stored using Apple's iCloud so the other players in that game can listen to it. Only players in that game can access it.
- Deletion: voice clues are deleted automatically when the game ends, or after 30 days without a move, whichever comes first.
- Reporting: if you report a clue, a copy of it and the Game Center player ID of the person who sent it are sent to me so I can review it. Reports are deleted within 30 days of being resolved, unless I need to keep them longer to deal with misuse.
- Blocking: you can block a player from the game screen. The block list is stored on your phone.
Purchases
The Punfold unlock is a one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple. I never see your name, payment details or Apple ID. The app only receives a confirmation from Apple that the unlock belongs to you, so it can be restored on your other devices.
Information Apple shares with developers
Apple provides developers with summary statistics, such as download numbers, sales and crash reports, but only from people who have chosen to share them with developers in their iPhone settings (Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements). This information doesn't identify you personally.
If you email me
If you contact support@punfold.com, I'll use your email address and message only to reply to you. I'll delete support emails once the issue is resolved, and no later than 12 months after.
Legal basis (UK and EU users)
- Running Remote games, storing voice clues and restoring purchases: to provide the game you've asked to play (performance of a contract).
- Reviewing reported clues and keeping the game safe: my legitimate interest in preventing abuse.
- Using the microphone: your permission, which you can withdraw at any time.
Children
Punfold includes a Kids puzzle mode for families to play together. Remote games, which involve recording and sharing voice clues, are not intended for children under 13 without a parent's involvement. Remote games require Game Center, and a parent can restrict Game Center multiplayer and the microphone using Screen Time. If you believe a child has shared a recording that should be removed, please email me and I'll delete it.
Your rights
You can ask me to access, correct or delete personal information I hold about you, or object to how I use it. Because almost everything is stored on your phone or held by Apple, there is usually very little I hold. Email support@punfold.com and I'll reply within one month. If you're in the UK and unhappy with how I've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Changes
If this policy changes, I'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, such as collecting a new kind of information, I'll also mention it in the app's update notes.
